Kat’s stack of listens

Recommended listens/reads.

With Substack picking up users, decided to retry this. With a twist - as my screen time has been very limited due to a car accident March 31 that left me with a concussion, these are almost all podcasts and a couple audiobooks (I miss reading & writing, and also running!!).

But first, I want to pay a brief tribute to Alaric Aloor, who died suddenly last weekend at just 43. We never met in person, but had interacted often online. He was a cybersecurity expert, a fighter for all that was right and for the underprivileged and incredibly active in his community and the world. So generous with his time and knowledge and money, and someone I continually turned to for his zest for life, passion for what was right and knowledge of AI ethics & cybersecurity. He will be deeply missed, by the world but especially by his wife and not-quite-1-year-old son. A GoFundMe for his son is here: https://gofund.me/93784b82

Podcasts (have listened to so many since I’m limited to almost only audio):

*Equity on founders’ mental health

*On With Kara Swisher interviewing Brooke Shields. Also, lived in the same neighborhood as Brooke Shields in NYC & she is warm & lovely.

*This season’s launch of The RunUp with Astead W. Herndon

*We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle interviewing Michelle Obama

*Plain English with Derek Thompson on why Americans die so much younger than counterparts in other countries. Devastating.

*Hidden Brain with Shankar Vedantam- it’s always good, one of the few pods I rarely miss.

*Nada que Ganar - another I rarely miss (en español!), with Cris Carrascosa, Javi Recuenco & Jaime Rodriguez de Santiago. This one on AI, the decline of Twitter, the Dalai Lama & more.

*Charlando con Libros - newly discovered for me, also en español. Loved the one both with Javier Recuenco & the one with Maria Blanco

Lastly, 2 audiobooks, which I never listen to audiobooks but since reading is out for now:

*Lisa Guerrero: Warrior: My Path To Being Brave, phenomenal story from another former sportswriter who went through it. https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/61030471

*Dr Marisa G. Franco: Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make - and Keep - Friends https://drmarisagfranco.com/about/platonic-the-book/

Happy listening.

Hope to bring more reads back in a couple weeks (and be back to work and not have time for so many listens).
