Attacks on freedom and democracy
As seen from Washington DC
I am in DC for a couple of days. As the attacks on democracy are coming faster and more aggressive by the day.
Disappearing immigrants with no due process to a hard labor prison in El Salvador.
Arresting immigrants for deportation that have protested or spoken out on certain causes, or who were arrested for a crime decades ago but have since had visas renewed many times with no issues. Including people with permanent residency. Including people who have lived in the U.S. since childhood. Including a Fulbright Scholar being arrested taken off the street by unidentified agents wearing masks and dark glasses https://apnews.com/article/tufts-student-detained-massachusetts-immigration-6c3978da98a8d0f39ab311e092ffd892
This afternoon I saw a ghost building.

Yes, a ghost building - the U.S. Capitol. Which used to hold a co-equal branch of government, and now seems to hold largely people who do nothing.
And then I visited the National Archives, seeing the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. And I wondered if a single one of the signatories to those would have stood silent while a President demolished democracy. I saw exhibits documenting the continuous battle for rights for various groups that were never treated equally - Black people and Japanese, Native Americans and Latinos, women, and on and on. The attacks now are coming for all of us, though.
Read the sign at the top of this post:
The Four Pillars of Freedom.
Freedom of Speech.
Freedom of Religion.
Freedom of the Press.
Freedom of Assembly.
The Foundation of Democracy.
All of these are facing unconstitutional attacks by Trump and his administration daily. We can not let this stand. We must not.
